Leading the Garden State in Business Analysis

Earning Continuing Development Units (CDU's)

CDU's are required for certified business analysts to renew their certification every three years.  Proof of chapter related CDU's can be obtained by applying to the VP of Membership.  There are two methods by which a certified business analyst can earn CDU's by virtue of Chapter activities as follows (from CBAP Recertification Handbook section 5.0):
  • Category 2C: IIBA Chapter Meetings and Events.  This is a subactivity for Category 2 Professional Development.  (Max of 30 CDUs per 3 year cycle for all Category 2 activities).  Attend an IIBA Chapter meeting/event and earn one (1) CDU per hour of the presentation portion which is assigned with the BABOK® Guide.  Actual attendance is required and will be recorded by the chapter in case of a CDU audit by the IIBA.

  • Category 5: Volunteer Service.  (Max of 30 CDUs per 3 year cycle).  Act as a volunteer to the chapter.  The IIBA requires at least a 50% attendance at organizational meetings and events relative to the type of volunteer activity.  Per the IIBA, CDU's are awarded as follows:

1. Serving as a volunteer Board member or officer for IIBA or an IIBA Chapter.

a. 1 hour of service qualifies for 1 CDU.

b. A bonus of 10 CDUs per “anniversary year” is also earned for a minimum of six months of participation per year.

2. Serving as a volunteer committee member for IIBA or an IIBA Chapter.

a. 1 hour of service qualifies for 1 CDU.

3. Providing business analysis related services to a community or charitable group.

a. The organization sponsoring the work must be a legally recognized not-for-profit.

b. 1 hour of service qualifies for 1 CDU
