Lessons in IT Transformation: Technology Expert to Business Leader

The opportunities for a CIO to truly add business value have never been greater. IT is a mission critical element in ensuring direct engagement with the consumers of our products and services. Information also allows us to make better and more timely business decisions on how, when and where to invest resources to drive value for our organization. In our totally connected world technology is a key underpinning to the way we conduct every aspect of our businesses.

The good news is that IT is more mission critical then ever before. The challenge is that many IT Executives lack the competencies required to leverage this opportunity. IT executives have had a great deal of experience in their areas of functional responsibility. Most are knowledgeable about their companies’ products and services and the markets they compete in. However, many of them struggle with the “human dynamics” required to drive transformational change and engage in a more outward facing role as these competencies aren’t taught in business school and don’t always come naturally to CIOs .

Larry's presentation, “Competencies of the New CIO” is based upon the principles from his book “Lessons in IT Transformation” focuses on these critical components of leadership such as:

• Getting diverse groups of people to align around a common vision & Managing through influence
• Leveraging technology to drive tangible business value
• Leading major change management initiatives
• Developing effective communication skills
• Marketing the value of IT
• Effective Relationship Management – building trust & credibility with key stakeholders
• Developing Human capital
• Partnering for Success
• Developing common qualities of great leaders
