Join us for an overview of Big Data and Analytics tools, and what BA's need to know to determine if they are right for their organization, and how you as a BA fit in.

The hype around “big data” has reached a fever pitch, but how does it translate into profitable business intelligence strategy? Some BI directors have staked their budgets on the latest analytics toys, only to wind up with expensive failures on their balance sheets. Others have doubled or tripled revenues in the span of a few years. What’s the difference?

Data collection and analytics have advanced by light-years, but the principle hasn’t changed: bad data in, bad data out. Great tools aren’t a substitute for good strategy and well managed data. That’s what we’re here to talk about.

In this talk, we’ll give an overview of the data landscape and to successfully navigate it. We’ll address passive and active data collection, and how the business intelligence machine has changed. We’ll talk about warehousing technology, Facebook quizzes, and cuneiform.

Some topics we’ll cover:

·       The democratization of data

·       Data analytics as a force multiplier

·       Popular analytics tools, and what innovations we can expect from the future

·       How the data flow fits into today’s analytical software

·       Data warehouses and what to do with them

·       Case studies of successful business intelligence strategies

·       Where today’s business analyst fits into the picture
